Eyelash Surfer

Eyelash Surfer is a nano-sculpture by Jonty Hurwitz that exists at a scale far below the threshold of human vision. Measuring only a few tens of microns in height, the work depicts a young girl surfing along a single eyelash of a child—a scene of play, wonder, and improbable balance rendered at the limits of contemporary fabrication technology. Created with the kind support of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Japan, the sculpture was produced using advanced nanoscale manufacturing techniques normally associated with scientific and medical research. The work continues Hurwitz’s exploration of the intersection between art, perception, and technological innovation, challenging viewers to reconsider the relationship between scale and experience. Invisible to the naked eye, Eyelash Surfer can only be observed through powerful microscopy, transforming the act of viewing into a journey between worlds.
