This anamorphic work is inspired by the vibrant color palette of a beautiful Gunnera leaf I photographed in the summer of 2020. I was so captivated by the colors nature can create that I produced two pieces in this series. The essence of this series lies in the concept that color palettes are coded deep within the DNA of all things. Each of these palettes has evolved over billions of years to reach its current state of strategic perfection. Having grown up in South Africa, I have been heavily influenced by the profound history of African Masks. This work applies a brutally mathematical lens to one of the core concepts behind African Masks. The listening ancestors. The origins of anamorphosis are obscure, but Niceron and DuBreuil first discussed the concept in writings dating back to the 1600s.
