Jonty Hurwitz's sculpture is inspired by his early childhood experiences with the animal kingdom and his years spent with horses on the narrow bridle paths near his home in the English countryside. It serves as a meditation on freedom, symbolizing the suppressed inner nature of domesticated animals. Through this creative work of art, Hurwitz captures the wild spirit of horses while simultaneously highlighting the irony of a world where they are largely 'owned'.. The sculpture honours the idea that horses, and other domesticated creatures, possess an in-built understanding of independence, freedom, and self-sufficiency, despite the disconnection of modern civilization from nature. This unique artwork explores the bond between the animal and its natural habitat, the power of freedom and its absence, and the ways in which our modern scientific civilization attempts to rein them in.
