Glyndebourne Afternoon on Show at The Lightbox, Woking
My 2018 polargraph-and-acrylic drawing 'Glyndebourne Afternoon' joins Parallel Lines: Drawing and Sculpture at The Lightbox in Woking, 22 June – 25 August 2019.

My 2018 piece, Glyndebourne Afternoon, is currently on view at The Lightbox in Woking, Surrey, as part of the exhibition Parallel Lines: Drawing and Sculpture. The show runs from 22 June to 25 August 2019, and I am very pleased to have this work included.
The drawing depicts the peculiarly English ritual of an audience picnicking on the lawns before an opera at Glyndebourne. It began as an ink rendering by a polargraph — a pendulum-drawing robot I have been working with for some years — before I developed the surface further by hand in acrylic. It sits, I think, in an honest dialogue between the calculated and the felt; a conversation that runs through much of my recent work on paper.
Parallel Lines is a generous context for the piece, exploring the quiet connections between drawing and sculptural form. It is always a moving thing to see a work settle into a new room and a new set of neighbours.
